Timeless Tanzanite Jewelry That Makes a Statement
Embrace the violet-blue to purple gemstone with our roundup of stunning tanzanite jewelry.

Next to alexandrite, tanzanite is one of the most popular pleochroic gemstones (stones that exhibit different colors from various angles). Unlike most gemstones, which have helped shape society over centuries, tanzanite is a relatively recent finding. Tiffany & Co. introduced it in 1967, just a year after its discovery. The gemstone is found exclusively in a small region of the Merelani Hills of northern Tanzania, neighboring the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. It ranges from intense violet-blue to pale purple, but violet-blue is considered the most covetable hue for tanzanite in the industry.
Tanzanite is one of December’s two birthstones, along with turquoise, and is also one of the most expensive of all birthstones. The birthstone is also associated with the Sagittarius and Capricorn signs. (Not sure what your star sign is? Check out our zodiac 101 guide). Here, we round up modern examples of stunning tanzanite jewelry. To learn more about the gemstone’s history, meaning, and visual characteristics, check out our guide to what tanzanite is.
