Gemstones come in every color of the rainbow, so it’s no surprise that designers create stunning pieces when they turn to the sky for inspiration. Sapphire is a popular choice for rainbow jewelry. While most people commonly associate sapphire with the color blue, fancy-colored sapphire actually comes in colors ranging from yellow to purple. Other designers mix different types of gemstones, such as green tsavorite, purple amethyst, yellow citrine, and pale blue aquamarine. Here, we showcase a fabulous selection of rainbow jewelry that will brighten up even the grayest day. 

Harwell Godfrey 

Harwell Godfrey frequently uses rainbows in her designs. Simple pieces might use rainbow-colored stone beads, while other pieces use precious gemstones. This necklace is a superb example of her work. It features multicolor gemstones, including sapphire, tsavorite, amethyst, citrine, and topaz. Each gemstone is bezel-set in 18K yellow gold, beautifully harmonizing the colors.

Lydia Courteille

While many of Lydia Courteille’s pieces feature exuberant and intricate designs, she also makes more wearable, everyday jewelry. These Nuevo Mundo earrings feature six rows of precious gemstones — one for each color of the rainbow. Of course, since it’s Lydia, there’s a twist. New York-based designer Sorellina uses more muted colors in this Tarot ring. It has three rows of fancy-colored sapphires separated by two bands of diamonds. This ring is 7.5mm wide, so it’s significant on the finger yet still comfortable. Each piece is made to order.
