Gone are the days of uninspired hotel spas with limited treatment menus. Today, properties are vying to outdo each other with exclusive treatments, the latest technologies, extensive amenities, and sumptuous design. We’ve scoured the country from coast to coast (and Hawaii, too!) to find the best luxury hotel spas in the US.

The Spa at The Maybourne Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills, California 

The Maybourne Beverly Hills is a gorgeous Spanish-styled estate in the heart of the city, which is perfect for a relaxing vacation or a day trip to the spectacular spa. It is known for its serene atmosphere, impressive water features, as well as its outstanding treatments. Come early to experience the riad-style mineral pool (pictured above), herbal steam room, sauna, and whirlpool before your treatments begin. You’ll want to spend at least an hour steaming and soaking. 

The holistic treatment therapies pay homage to the elements of the earth. Some of our favorite treatments include the CBD facials and aromatherapy massages. The spa also offers a variety of organic treatments that use sustainable, vegan skincare products. 

La Prairie Spa at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills, California

Situated in the Art Deco-inspired Waldorf Astoria in the heart of Beverly Hills is the incredible La Prairie Spa. Just walking into the gorgeous hotel — with its elegant crystal chandeliers and opulent furnishings — you’ll feel at home amongst the glamorous Hollywood elite. The treatments at the spa are inspired by Swiss medicine and incorporate products from La Prairie. One of our favorite treatments is the Perfecting Radiance Facial, which brightens the skin using golden drops of La Prairie’s Cellular Radiance Concentrate Pure Gold.

Despite its size, the 5,000-square-foot spa feels quite intimate. It has just six treatment rooms, but the amenities are exceptional, especially the light therapy shower and eucalyptus steam room. Additionally, the spa offers a couples suite with a private bath and shower for a more intimate experience.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, New York

New York City

The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental sits on the 35th floor of the immaculate hotel, offering panoramic views of the glittering skyline and the Hudson River. The Asian-inspired decor creates a tranquil atmosphere, as do the water features. There is an amethyst-crystal steam room enhances meditation by channeling the healing powers of the steam room’s centerpiece: an amethyst crystal. Another notable feature is the spa’s vitality pool, which is pumped with 20 times more oxygen than typically found in water. This concentration can boost the amount of oxygen absorbed through the skin. Increased oxygen levels help release toxins from the body, increase blood circulation, and also elevate energy levels. 

A wide variety of signature spa treatments are available to soothe and heal the mind, body, and soul. Our favorites include the jet lag cure massage and the water lily radiance facial, which leaves you positively glowing. It uses fruit acids to gently exfoliate dead skin and water lily to hydrate. If you are receiving a couples treatment, the VIP Spa Suite is the epitome of a luxury spa experience. The suite feels like an Asian-styled home, equipped with a cozy fireplace, two massage beds, as well as a tub. If you’re checking into the hotel, be sure to take a class at the Thai yoga studio, which resembles a traditional Buddhist temple. 

Shibui Spa at The Greenwich Hotel

New York City

Tribeca’s Shibui Spa at The Greenwich Hotel is a haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The spa’s décor, treatments, and philosophy focus on finding balance. Fittingly, it finds the balance between nature and New York City; Western and Eastern therapies; and ancient and also modern techniques. The atmosphere is tranquil and truly transports you from Tribeca to the Japanese countryside. It has elements of traditional Japanese décor, with bamboo, wood, and stone throughout. Warm and soft lighting sets the mood. All of the treatments use both ancient and modern healing practices, taking inspiration from nature. Additionally, many of the products used in the treatments are plant-based and organic. We recommend coming early or staying after your treatment to enjoy the spa facilities, which include lovely steam and rain showers, or to indulge in an onsen ritual.

There are three options of onsen rituals: hinoki, shinrin-yoku, and healing. Firstly, each ritual begins with a cleaning signature soak in the ofuro tub (Japanese bath). The hinoki experience uses a healing mixture of hinoki cypress, mint, cedar, sage, and lemon in a mineral-rich bath, before an acupressure-point therapy massage. Secondly, the shinrin-yoku ritual begins with a clearing soak, followed by a deep massage, and ending with a warm mud mask combined with essential oils on the hands and feet. Lastly, the healing onsen ritual uses a combination of mineral-rich salts and essential oils, such as lavender and eucalyptus, to reduce fluid retention and strengthen blood circulation. The healing massage targets muscle tension using Arica and birch oil. 

Chuan Spa at The Langham, Chicago

Chuan Spa at The Langham blends traditional Chinese medicine with modern technology and therapies in a serene environment. The spa is decorated according to the principles of Feng Shui and also features stone elements. Chaun Spas are known for their signature bathing ritual, which guests indulge in before treatment. The ritual alternates hot and cold temperatures, beginning with one of the two saunas. The Herbal Sauna is designed to loosen tight muscles, while the Salt Stone Sauna is lined with blocks of Himalayan salt stone, which are thought to help with stress reduction and respiratory ailments. Afterward, rinse in the Aromatherapy Shower and a visit to the Oriental Steam Room. Finally, you can meditate and relax in one of the ergonomically designed reclining chairs before your therapist collects you for your treatment. 

The spa offers traditional massages as well as Chinese medicine-inspired treatments such as gua sha and cupping therapy. The facials use Kerstin Florian skincare products — a luxury, organic skincare line known for its natural and effective ingredients. 

The Wellhouse at Blackberry Farm

Walland, Tennessee 

Amidst the serene landscape of the Smoky Mountains, you’ll find one of the top spas in the US: Wellhouse Spa at Blackberry Farm. This gorgeous, rustic spa retreat will reinvigorate your mind, body, and spirit. It offers treatments inspired by the nearby mountains, gardens, and forests. 

Each treatment incorporates holistic healing practices. We recommend booking a Reiki (energy healing) session, the hydrafacial, as well as one of the many wonderful massage treatments. Of course, you’ll want to book a stay at this incredible hotel. It offers plenty of activities and award-winning restaurants.

Just a few miles north of Miami you’ll find the luxurious and tranquil Acqualina Resort and Residences. Sunny Isle Beach has the same stunning blue waters and white-sand beaches as Miami, but a more relaxed ambience. The resort also boasts one of the region’s best spas, Acqualina Spa by Espa. This incredible spa spans 20,000 square feet and has Himalayan salt walls, an experience shower with a variety of jet settings, an outdoor spa swimming pool, a Roman waterfall, as well as delicious spa cuisine, making it the perfect place for a full day of relaxation. 

The spa offers Espa treatments, which are renowned worldwide. In addition to traditional treatments, there are exclusive and unique services like the Sound Healing Massage, which combines a traditional Swedish aromatherapy massage with specially curated music at frequencies created to deeply relax the mind. For a relaxing, regenerative facial treatment, try the Refining Enzyme facial. It uses fruit enzymes and botanical extracts to exfoliate, while a lifting and soothing mask made of larch extracts and Argan oil leaves you with a fuller, firmer appearance to your now glowing skin.

Remède Spa at the St. Regis Aspen Resort is the perfect place to begin your visit to Aspen. Not only are the treatments superb, but the relaxation lounge has oxygen therapy, which can help you adjust to Aspen’s high altitude. 

As Aspen is an adventure town full of amazing hikes, ski slopes, and other rigorous outdoor activities, the spa offers many targeted treatments to help your recovery. For example, the Rocky Mountain Vibes Massage and the CBD-infused massage can soothe sore muscles. The experienced estheticians specifically tailor each facial treatment to your skin, using products from renowned skincare lines. For example, one of our favorite facial treatments is the Dr. Dennis Gross facial, which combats fine lines and enlarged pores, leaving you with a youthful glow. 

The Spa at Sea Island Resort

Sea Island, Georgia 

The picturesque Sea Island Spa is a Mediterranean-styled oasis, ideal for a reset and a decadent day of treatments. The spa is centered around a soaring garden atrium with magnificent trees and foliage, rustic stone walkways, and flowing pools. The facilities include a water atrium with a hydrotherapy pool, a sauna, steam room, and quiet outdoor spaces such as the labyrinth and garden atrium. 

Treatments focus on tried and true classics, Swedish and hot stone massages, as well as tailored facials. If you’re looking for something more unique, try the Balinese massage, which uses pressure-point therapy to relieve pain and organic oils to increase blood flow. The Spa also has high-tech facials, including HydraFacial, MediSpa facials, LED light therapy, and DermaBuilder. 

The Spa at The Post Oak Hotel

Houston

This 20,000-square-foot spa sits on the fifth floor of the tony The Post Oak Hotel in uptown Houston, surrounded by stylish shops and fabulous restaurants. It is known for its advanced treatments, impeccable service, and extravagant spa facilities, including zero-gravity chairs, a steam room and sauna, flaked ice fountain, experience shower, and a vitality pool. It also features several hard-to-find brands and treatments, including In-Skin facial machine, which provides six different therapies. You can book individual treatments or opt for the two-hour In-Skin Ultimate Radiant Complexion that includes all six. 

Another favorite is the Healing Tequila Massage, where a masseuse applies a mixture of sage oil and tequila. This combination can fight inflammation and aid in digestion. Plus, at the end of the session, you’re welcome to a shot of ultra-smooth Veneno Tequila, made from 100% blue agave. Not a tequila drinker? There are plenty of non-alcoholic refreshments, including fresh-pressed juices, in the relaxation room. There’s also the fabulous Ritual of the Five Worlds, a two-hour treatment with two therapists. One focuses on the head while the other focuses on the feet. It’s truly magical. 

Spa Montage at Montage Kapalua Bay  

Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii

Spa Montage at Montage Kapalua Bay is a sprawling 30,000-square-foot sanctuary specializing in ultimate relaxation. Using local ingredients from the island, each treatment pays homage to the land and Hawaii’s lush nature. The spa sits atop a hill with stunning views of the ocean. The indoor-outdoor spa takes advantage of Hawaii’s incredible weather, with an outdoor whirlpool, infinity pool, and open-air hale houses, where you can indulge in treatments surrounded by the sound of rustling leaves and ocean waves. 

We recommend the Lomi Lomi massage, which uses the rhythmic and flowing forearm strokes characteristic of Hawaiian treatments. The spa also offers a wide variety of anti-aging and regenerating facials using products from the cutting-edge Swiss line, Valmont.
